The Foundation for Social Health is focused on working with volunteers, supporters, donors, and the broader community to build positive social connections. The Foundation for Social Health understands that people may be concerned about the disclosure and use of their personal details.
We have adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The NPPs govern the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your Personal Information.

What is Personal Information and Why Do We Collect It?
Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of Personal Information we collect includes names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers.
Generally, any Personal Information collected by The Foundation for Social Health is provided by you when you chose to stay up to date through subscribing to our email list. This normally includes your name, email address, and address. We also obtain Personal Information through providing your details at events that we run, from media and publications, from emails and telephone calls to the Foundation for Social Health, from our website, from other publicly available sources from third parties. We don’t guarantee website links or policy of authorised third parties.
We may use the information to:
- Email or write to you about campaigns, fundraising activities, volunteering opportunities, or updates about the activities of the Foundation for Social Health
- Email or write to you about events, workshops, conferences, talks and other activities that either the Foundation for Social Health or our partner organisations might be hosting
- Let others know about you if you have authorised it (for instance, if you have volunteered for an activity, your contact details may be passed on to the activity organiser)
Your Details
If you provide personal information to us about another person (such as an RSVP to an event for a friend), then their details will be added to the Foundation for Social Health’s communications list. If they do not wish to receive communications from the Foundation for Social Health, they can opt-out by unsubscribing on any communications material.
Information about you that is collected by the Foundation for Social Health is held only as long as it is necessary to provide you with the service or information required or until our legal requirement to hold that information expires.
Opt Out Facility
Each email or mail-out will give the recipient the option of not receiving further communications of this nature. You can also opt-out of our communications by contacting us by email.
Disclosure of Personal Information
We do not pass on your details to third parties for their own purposes or for commercial purposes.
Your information may be disclosed in a number of circumstances including the following:
- Third parties where you consent to the use or disclosure; and
- Where required or authorised by law.
Security of Personal Information
Your Personal Information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
When your Personal Information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify your Personal Information. However, most of the Personal Information is or will be stored in files which will be kept by us for a minimum of 7 years.

You may access the Personal Information we hold about you and to update and/or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. If you wish to access your Personal Information, please contact us in writing.
In order to protect your Personal Information we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.
Maintaining the Quality of your Personal Information
It is important to us that your Personal Information is up to date. We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
